The 2023 China-Singapore Green Sustainable Development Summit Forum was successfully held on Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island

Focusing on Green Sustainable Development, China-Singapore Jointly Draw a New Chapter.

On May 16, 2023, the 10th meeting of the Singapore-Nanjing Key Projects Cooperation Committee was held in Nanjing to deepen cooperation between Singapore and Nanjing and actively expand cooperation in new areas. Senior Minister of State for Manpower and Sustainable Development and Environment of Singapore, Mr. Zulkifli Masagos, and the Mayor of Nanjing, Mr. Chen Zhichang, co-chaired the meeting as the Joint Chairmen of the Singapore-Nanjing Key Projects Cooperation Committee.

They jointly signed the 4th round of Memorandum of Understanding and witnessed the signing of key projects under the Singapore-Nanjing cooperation. Consul-General of Singapore in Shanghai, Mr. Cheang Kok Hin, and Deputy Secretary-General and Deputy Mayor of Nanjing Municipal Committee, Mr. Deng Zhiyi, attended the meeting.

As one of the important supporting events of the Singapore-Nanjing Meeting, the 2023 China-Singapore Green Sustainable Development Summit Forum was successfully held on the Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island on the morning of May 17.

The forum was hosted by the Administrative Committee of Jiangsu NanjingEco Hi-tech Island Economic Development Zone and China-SingaporeNanjing Eco Hi-tech Island Development Co., Ltd., co-organized by Lianhe Zaobao, and supported by Enterprise Singapore, Nanjing Bureau of Commerce, and Jianye District, Nanjing.

The main focus of the China-Singapore Green Sustainable Development Summit Forum was to promote the coordinated development of green industries between China and Singapore and to build an international smart ecological circle. Various departments, experts, scholars, and executives from the green industry were invited to engage in deep dialogue, fostering friendship, collaboration, and development. Deputy Mayor of Nanjing, Ji Tiejun, delivered the opening speech at the forum.

Co-Chairman of the Singapore-Nanjing Key Projects Cooperation Committee,  senior minister of state for manpower,sustainability and the environmentDR. Koh Poh Koon, delivered a keynote speech titled "Reflections on the Practical Path of Singapore's Green Plan 2030". He highlighted Singapore's green development blueprint and how Singapore and Nanjing can collaborate in their journey towards sustainable development.

01 China-Singapore Cooperation, Gathering Global Resources

Currently, Nanjing is not only promoting the construction of a national innovation-oriented city but also accelerating the establishment of a low-carbon development policy system and striving for a "green ecology" as the basis for becoming a low-carbon city pilot. This provides broad space for cooperation between Singapore and Nanjing. As one of China's major international investment sources and an important node on the Belt and Road Initiative, Singapore plays a significant role.

At the 10th meeting of the Singapore-Nanjing Key Projects Cooperation Committee, the two sides reviewed the achievements of their cooperation over the past decade, discussed the direction of future cooperation, and focused on showcasing the cooperative scenarios for green sustainable development on the Eco-Tech Island.

Through this opportunity, they aim to expand the influence of the projects, attract Singaporean and well-known domestic and international companies, utilize the advantages of China-Singapore cooperation, foster innovative leading enterprises, unicorns, gazelles, and high-tech enterprises, and contribute to the aggregation of industries and green sustainable development on the entire island.

02 Nanjing Dialogue, Co-Creating Cooperative Development

During the keynote speech session of the forum, Hong Yongxiang, Deputy General Manager of OCBC Wing Hang Bank (China) Limited and Director-General of Corporate Banking, discussed the theme of "Green Finance to Pivot Sustainable Journey". He mentioned that the concepts of green finance and sustainable development are receiving increasing attention from various investment institutions. Under the backdrop of "double carbon," this will bring more cooperation opportunities and development space for all parties involved.

Li Aimin, Chief Scientist and Deputy Director of the Yangtze River Ecological Civilization Innovation Center, spoke on the topic of "Thinking of Sino-Singapore Collaborative Innovation in Industrial Wastewater Pollution Reduction and Carbon Emission Reduction under the Background of Double Carbon." He interpreted the prospects of Sino-Singapore collaboration and sincere cooperation in the context of double carbon. The Yangtze River Ecological Civilization Innovation Center, jointly initiated by Nanjing Municipal Government and Nanjing University, among other institutions, is a national-level research platform located in the Jiangdao Zhili Cube Industrial Park on the Eco-Tech Island, which will explore wider cooperative opportunities with Singapore.

During the roundtable dialogue session, guests participated in a discussion on "Building a New Ecosystem for China-Singapore Green and Smart Industries." The dialogue was moderated by Gu Gonglei, Assistant Vice President of Singapore Press Holdings' Chinese Media Group.

Participants included Lv Yinzhou, Senior Vice President and Head of Asset Management of Shengke Energy Investment (Shanghai), Li Yuanguang, General Manager of Sustainability Development at CapitaLand Investment (China), Shen Jianguo, Chief Analyst for Power Equipment and New Energy Industry at Huatai Securities, Wang Peihong, Vice Director, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor of the Research Institute for Carbon Neutrality Strategies in the Yangtze River Delta at Southeast University, and Wang Li, Deputy General Manager of Jiangsu Branch of China Three Gorges Corporation. They offered suggestions and advice for the development of China-Singapore green and smart industries and the green sustainable development of the Eco-Tech Island.

China and Singapore are important economic and trade partners for each other, and bilateral economic and trade cooperation has achieved long-term development in recent years, with cooperation expanding to various fields.Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island, focusing on green economy and sustainable development, has been committed to building a platform for innovation, technology exchange, and cooperation between Nanjing and Singapore. The successful hosting of this meeting and forum will provide confidence and opportunities for more international businesses and companies. With the support of all parties involved, the Eco-Tech Island will fully demonstrate its characteristics of green sustainable development and become a new model for China-Singapore cooperation!
