The2021 China-Singapore Green Development Summitwas held atSingapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island in Nanjing, Jiangsu province on Oct 18.

As a major thematic activityduringthe9th Meeting oftheSingapore-NanjingSpecial Projects CooperationPanel, it aimed to deepen cooperation between Singapore and Nanjing and explore new areas of cooperation.

The2021 China-Singapore Green Development Summitis held at Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, on Oct 18.

The summit was sponsored by Enterprise Singapore, Economic Development Board Singapore,theNanjing municipal commerce and trade bureau, andtheJianye district government. It was undertaken by SingaporeNanjing Eco Hi-tech Island Economic Development Zone Management Committee and Sino-Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island Development Company. SingaporeLianheZaobao and Nanjing Daily jointly organized the summit.

Zhang Jun, deputy director oftheStanding Committee of Nanjing Municipal People's Congress, and Zhang Junrong, deputy chief of Enterprise Singapore, addressed the summit. Specialists, government officials and entrepreneurs from both countries gathered for advancingthegreen economy and sustainable development.

Singapore is one of China's major sources of international investment and a vital node of the Belt and Road Initiative, andpartners with Nanjing in humanitarian, economic and trade relations. At present, Nanjing is boosting a series of major measures such asbuilding aninnovative cityandindustrial landmarks, which offer broad spaceforcooperation between Nanjing and Singapore.

Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island is an integrated cooperation project developed byboth sides and promoted by Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, Jiangsu Provincial Government, andtheSingapore Ministry of Trade and Industry. Itstrives to modelSingapore's experience in garden city construction andhasadhered to the dual wheel drive of urban construction and industrialdevelopment. It hasalsobecome a demonstration area in urban-rural integration development, industrial and urban integration and progress, and ecological and green development after more than a decade of planning and construction.

A 300 million yuan ($46.65 million) special fund was contributed by Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island Economic Development Zone Management Committee andtheSino-Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island Development Company during the 9th Meeting oftheSingapore-NanjingSpecial Projects CooperationPanel. It willbe utilized to attractaheadquarters economy, digital economy, top 500 domestic and foreign enterprises as well as Singapore enterprises andaims at cultivating high-innovation enterprises, unicorn companies, gazelle companies, andanechelon of high-tech enterprises.

As for keynote speechesat the summit, Li Aimin, chief scientistfrom theYangtze River Ecological Civilization Innovation Center, explained the supporting and leading role ofthelow-carbon industry in realizing the dual carbon goal. Fu Maozan, president and CEO oftheUnited Overseas Bank (China), Singapore, talked about green development from the perspective of investment.

TheChina (Jiangsu) Pilot Free Trade ZoneNanjing AreaJointInnovationDevelopmentZone of Singapore NanjingEco Hi-tech Island wasinaugurated at the 8th Meeting of Singapore-NanjingSpecial Projects CooperationPanel in October2020. The Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island was recognized as a Jiangsu International Cooperation Park in January and a provincial free trade joint innovation zone in June this year. It aimed topublicizeintegrated scientific and technological achievements, innovative application R&D and design, and product display as a smart city and become a globally influential AI R&D design and application demonstration area and a world-class water science and technology R&D and application demonstration zone.
